Trump Could Potentially Send US People To The “Worst Prison In The World” With “Inhumane Rules”

President Donald Trump now has the option to send U.S. criminals to El Salvador’s Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), a notorious maximum-security prison known as “the world’s worst prison.” Opened in 2023 by President Nayib Bukele’s administration, CECOT houses the nation’s most dangerous criminals in a facility surrounded by 19 towers, concrete walls, and electric gates.

The prison has received international criticism, with UN member Miguel Sarre describing it as a “concrete and steel pit.” Despite this, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced an agreement where El Salvador will accept deported U.S. criminals, including U.S. citizens, in exchange for a fee. Bukele stated that only convicted criminals would be accepted.

The prison’s harsh conditions were detailed by BBC News correspondent Leire Venta, who described overcrowded cells, extreme heat, and brutal security measures. Prisoners sleep on bare metal and eat with their hands, with guards constantly watching.
