George Carson, owner of the prestigious New York restaurant The Kettle of Fish, is outraged to discover cleaner Consuelo Ruiz stealing scraps from customers’ plates. While checking on his wine collection late one night, he sees her collecting leftovers to feed her four children in a condemned building.
