Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were originally scheduled to spend just eight days on the International Space Station, but they ended up staying for nine months after their return spacecraft was deemed unsafe. The delay was due to budget issues, and they had to watch the vessel depart without them.
Finally, thanks to SpaceX and Elon Musk’s support, Wilmore and Williams returned to Earth aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. They splashed down off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida after a 17-hour journey.
Williams expressed how much she missed her family and dogs, while also reflecting on the unique perspective space gave her about caring for our planet. Their mission was delayed previously due to a hydraulic issue, but they are now safely back on Earth.
