Jennifer’s heart races when she finds her son Alex sobbing in her mother-in-law Margaret’s living room. Margaret claims she’s teaching Alex gratitude by throwing away his toys, but Jennifer believes there’s a better way. Determined to make her point, she plans a lesson for Margaret.
Feeling anxious before picking up Alex, Jennifer recalls Margaret’s critical comments about her parenting. When she arrives, she finds Alex in tears because Margaret has taken away his toys for not appreciating a new gift.
Jennifer confronts Margaret about her harsh methods. She decides to teach her a lesson by packing away Margaret’s everyday dinnerware, leaving only her precious fine china. As Margaret protests, Jennifer explains that just because someone doesn’t show gratitude in the expected way doesn’t mean they aren’t grateful.
After their encounter, days pass without contact from Margaret. When she finally visits, she brings back Alex’s toys, expressing remorse. Jennifer reassures her that lessons should be taught with love, not through deprivation.
They both learn the importance of kindness and understanding in parenting and relationships.
