My mother-in-law gifted us her old home, but then she approached me with an astonishing demand

When my mother-in-law gave us her old house, I thought she was finally being kind. My husband and I poured months of savings and hard work into fixing it up, but just as we were about to enjoy it, Constance made a demand that left me speechless.

John and I had been living with my parents while saving for our own home. We asked Constance if we could stay with her, but she refused, claiming that John should “provide for his family.” Meanwhile, her daughter Lisa and her husband Anthony lived with her rent-free without any issues.

Eventually, Constance offered us a house that belonged to her father, saying we could fix it up instead of buying. It was in terrible shape, but we saw potential and decided to go for it. We spent all our savings and worked tirelessly to renovate, and soon, it felt like a real home.

But Constance never mentioned the paperwork. Months passed, and then, at our housewarming party, she revealed that Lisa was pregnant and needed more space. She wanted us to give up the house for them. I was furious. We’d worked so hard, spent all our savings, and now she expected us to just hand it over.

In the end, we packed up and returned the keys to Constance. But when she arrived to take the house, we had stripped it bare. The house was just as it had been when she gave it to us. Her reaction was pure fury, and we kicked her out for good.

Later, my parents offered us the money they had saved for us to help with our own home. It was a true gift, and we’ll always be grateful for their kindness.
