When I married Jake, I thought we shared the same dreams of a loving partnership and a bright future. For three years, I managed our household, raising our kids and working part-time while Jake claimed to be busy building our future. But everything changed the day I discovered what his “work” really was.
Jake locked himself in his office, calling it his “war room,” and insisting he was busy with meetings. But one day, when our kids caused a commotion, Jake snapped, revealing he wasn’t working at all. Instead, he was spending hours playing online games and talking to a woman named Suzy. He claimed she understood him, unlike me.
After he stormed out, I learned from his mother that “Suzy” was actually a middle-aged man who had been catfishing Jake. Jake had even sent money to him. I laughed at the absurdity and decided I was done. When Jake begged to come back, I told him I wanted a divorce, keeping the house, the kids, and my dignity.
I began rebuilding my life, finding a full-time job and regaining my independence. One night, as I tucked my son into bed, he asked if we’d be okay. With a smile, I reassured him, “Yes, sweetheart. We’re going to be more than okay.”
