My 6-Year-Old Granddaughter Came to Visit for the Holidays—Then Spilled the Beans About What Her Mom Says Behind My Back

Every year, I look forward to spending the holidays with my granddaughter, Brittany. But last year, things changed. Brittany started calling me hurtful names like “old lady” and “wrinkly hag.” When I asked her where she’d heard them, she revealed that her parents, my son Todd and his wife Rachel, had been saying these things about me.

I was shocked and hurt, especially after all I’d done for them, from helping with their mortgage to funding a family vacation. I decided to take action. After a few days of enjoying the holiday with Brittany, I secretly recorded a conversation between Todd and Rachel. I overheard them complaining about my support, saying I was “trying to buy Brittany’s love.”

Angry and heartbroken, I confronted them, playing the recording. I told them that I would no longer babysit or offer financial help unless absolutely necessary. I set firm boundaries and told them I wouldn’t be disrespected again. Though it was painful, I knew standing up for myself was the right thing to do.
