Julianne Moore expressed her shock upon learning that her children’s book, Freckleface Strawberry, was banned in some Department of Defense schools under the Trump administration. The 2007 book, which promotes self-acceptance, was surprising to Moore, especially given her military background. She questioned why a story about embracing differences would be considered inappropriate.
Moore also thanked PEN America for highlighting the issue. The book ban is part of a broader trend of censorship in schools, especially against books focused on diversity and empowerment. Moore, whose own struggles with self-image inspired the book, remains vocal about the importance of allowing children access to stories that promote self-love and acceptance.
