I thought my neighbor admired my garden—a few similar flowers, a matching layout. But when she copied every detail, I started to wonder. After a storm knocked down our fence, I found the truth: a hidden camera, blinking red, watching my every move.
Gardening is my passion. I spend hours researching plants, adjusting layouts, and tending to my space. It’s a form of therapy, something I curate with care. So, when Courtney’s garden started mirroring mine, I chalked it up to inspiration. But then I planted a bright orange marigold as a test—and, a week later, she had one too.
Determined to stop her, I started gardening under the cover of night. But then the storm came, and our fence was destroyed. That’s when I found the tiny camera, hidden in the wreckage, pointed straight at my yard.
Angry and shaken, I confronted Courtney. She claimed it was part of her security system, but I wasn’t fooled. Her backyard was a replica of mine, down to the plants I had discarded. After some prodding, she admitted that her husband had forced her to copy me—threatening to leave if she didn’t.
Feeling pity for her, I helped Courtney create her own garden, one that was truly hers. Months later, we stood together, admiring her new, unique garden. She had finally kicked her controlling husband out.
“Good,” I said. “One less weed in the garden.”
