Addison, a busy neurologist, rarely has time for romance, but when her cheerful coworker Nathan sets her up on a blind date with a man named Jake, she feels hopeful.
The date goes well until Addison shares her three-year dating rule: six months of getting to know each other, a year of serious dating, and a year and a half living together before marriage. Jake, wanting something more immediate, abruptly leaves, leaving Addison confused and hurt.
After texting him for answers, Jake replies, calling her indecisive and blocking her. Later, Addison learns from Nathan that Jake wanted a quicker commitment. Her best friend Sophie reassures her that being honest about expectations is important, even if it leads to rejection. Addison reflects on staying true to herself, despite the awkward ending.
