Lucy had once believed she had it all—a perfect family and a life full of joy. But after her divorce, everything fell apart, and she was left alone, estranged from her son Harry, who blamed her for the broken family. Her ex-husband, James, had painted her as the villain, and Harry refused to even speak to her.
One day, as Lucy sat in Miss Kinsley’s home, reflecting on the loss of her family, Miss Kinsley offered her some tough advice, urging her to bring lightness and joy back into her life. This conversation weighed heavily on Lucy’s heart, and she left feeling lost and defeated.
As she walked down the street, memories of her past life overwhelmed her. But then, a car came speeding toward her, nearly hitting her. She leaped to safety, landing in a muddy puddle. The driver, furious, berated her, but another man, dressed sharply, stepped out and offered her help. His name was George, and he helped Lucy into his car, driving her to his luxurious mansion to make sure she was okay.
Inside, George treated her with kindness, offering tea and comfort. As they spoke, it dawned on Lucy—this was George from high school, the one who had once confessed his love for her. The years melted away as they reminisced about their past, and Lucy found herself opening up about the pain she had been carrying. She shared her struggles with her divorce and estranged son, feeling seen and heard for the first time in a long time.
George gently reminded her of a moment they had shared after prom, when he had told her he loved her. The memory of that night, and the possibility of “what if,” hung between them. He took her hand, and with a smile, suggested that maybe they could start something new—together.
Lucy, for the first time in years, felt a spark of hope. The weight of her past seemed a little lighter, and the idea of starting anew with George felt like a chance she couldn’t ignore.
“Maybe we can,” she said softly, her heart warming with the possibility of what the future might hold.
