Years after high school, I unexpectedly ran into Mr. Harper, my favorite teacher, at a farmers’ market. We quickly caught up, and what started as a friendly conversation turned into something unexpected.
In high school, he was the cool, charismatic teacher who made history feel like a story. He once encouraged me to consider law school, but I never took it seriously. Years later, when we met again, he was no longer “Mr. Harper” but Leo. We laughed about his switch from history to English teaching, and our connection quickly grew deeper.
Over time, Leo became my biggest supporter, encouraging me to pursue my dream of opening a bookstore café. After a lot of hard work, I left my desk job, and with his support, our café became a local success.
One night, Leo gave me a journal I’d written in high school, filled with dreams I’d long forgotten. He told me he kept it because it reminded him of my potential, and with his encouragement, I began to chase those dreams. Now, as we run our thriving bookstore café with our child, I realize I really did marry the right teacher.
