In central Russia, the bodies of a young couple who disappeared nearly a decade ago were found in the Volga River. Ilya Zhirnov, 25, and his girlfriend Kira Cherkasova, 22, went missing in December 2005 after Zhirnov borrowed his father’s car to pick her up.

The car, with their remains inside, was discovered by an unnamed local diver near Cheboksary. Despite a police investigation, the case was closed due to lack of evidence. Authorities believe the couple died in a car accident on icy roads. An ongoing investigation will provide more details.
