Data reveals that pilots Captain Jonathan Campos and First Officer Samuel Lilley made a last-ditch attempt to save everyone aboard before the deadly crash. On January 29, a PSA Airlines plane, owned by American Airlines, collided with a Black Hawk helicopter carrying US soldiers during a training mission.
The crash, which occurred as Flight 5342 was nearing Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, killed all on board. Despite efforts from 300 first responders, no survivors were found.
In the final moments, data from the flight’s black box shows a slight pitch increase as the pilots tried to lift the plane. Investigations are ongoing, with conflicting altitude data from the control tower and flight recorder.
Campos had spoken to his uncle just before the crash, sounding happy about an upcoming cruise with family. American Airlines expressed condolences, confirming the flight’s involvement in the accident.
