Church Leaders Urge Calm and Resilience in Sermons Following Trump’s Accident

Less than 24 hours after Donald Trump’s accident, pastors nationwide addressed stunned congregants on Sunday. At a conservative evangelical church in Visalia, California, Rev. Joel Renkema called the incident a “trumpet blast” and warned against hate and division, urging calm.

“This is a warning shot!” Renkema declared.

By Sunday morning, church leaders scrambled to guide their shocked congregations following the suspected assassination attempt at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. Though not overtly religious, Trump had become a messianic figure for many in the MAGA movement, and the attack was seen by some as an assault on Christianity.

Responses varied widely across denominations. While some pastors avoided specifics, others invoked spiritual warfare, with New Apostolic Reformation leaders naming Trump directly. Meanwhile, a Trump confidant described him as feeling “spiritual” about surviving, calling it a “gift from God.”
