The Last Words And Heartfelt Gesture Pope Francis Made In His Final Moments

As the world mourns, the Pope’s closest collaborators have shared the truth about his final hours, including a touching farewell gesture and the words he chose to leave behind.

In his final moments, Pope Francis expressed his gratitude to the man who had supported him through his illness with a simple hand gesture. It was a brief, yet deeply meaningful goodbye.

Just moments earlier, he had whispered nine poignant words — his last known sentence: “Thank you for bringing me back to the Square.” These words were addressed to Massimiliano Strappetti, the nurse who had become a central figure in the Pope’s later years.

It was Strappetti who once recommended colon surgery that ultimately saved the Pope’s life. More than just a caregiver, he became a constant presence. In 2022, he was officially appointed as Pope Francis’ personal healthcare assistant, a testament to his unwavering dedication.

Strappetti remained by the Pope’s side during his final stay at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome and later at Casa Santa Marta, where he kept close watch.

He also accompanied Pope Francis on Easter Sunday during the Urbi et Orbi blessing — the Pope’s final public appearance. Just a day before, the two had gone over the route he would take to reach the central loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Following the blessing, the Pope had planned to ride in the popemobile to surprise the 50,000 faithful gathered in the Square. But he paused for a moment and asked, “Do you think I can manage it?” — seeking advice from his trusted aide.
