Second Child Dies Days After Woman Allegedly Sent Poisoned Easter Eggs to Ex’s Family in Revenge Plot

Just days after the death of her seven-year-old brother, a 13-year-old girl tragically passed away after a woman allegedly sent “poisoned Easter eggs” as an act of revenge against her ex-boyfriend.

Mirian Lira, from Brazil, is believed to have received chocolate Easter eggs from a woman named Jordélia Pereira Barbosa. The package came with a note that read: “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.”

According to police, after Mirian gave the chocolates to her two children, her seven-year-old son Luis became seriously ill after eating them.

When Luis was found unconscious, his father Rafael tried to resuscitate him using CPR, but the boy went into cardiac arrest and passed away on Thursday, April 17.

Mirian’s 13-year-old daughter, Evelyn Silva, also died after she and her mother were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

As reported by Metro, health officials confirmed that the teenager’s death was caused by vascular shock leading to multiple organ failure.

“Unfortunately, her clinical condition deteriorated rapidly and did not respond to treatment,” the hospital stated.

Lira’s condition is reported to be stable, though she remains hospitalized.

Barbosa allegedly poisoned the chocolates and sent them to Lira, who is currently in a relationship with Barbosa’s ex-boyfriend. This led to Barbosa’s arrest on April 21.

She was apprehended by police while riding a bus home in Santa Inês. Investigators found a receipt confirming that she had purchased the eggs.

CCTV footage reportedly shows Barbosa wearing a black wig while buying the chocolate. She was also found with two wigs, scissors, greeting cards, a serrated knife, and other unidentified items, along with the purchase receipt.

When questioned, Barbosa admitted to buying the Easter eggs but denied poisoning them.

Authorities also claim this was not her first attempt.

According to Imperatriz, Barbosa had previously tried to enter Lira’s workplace to distribute chocolate samples but was denied entry. She then moved to the parking lot and handed them out there.

Maurício Martins, Secretary of Security for Maranhão, told Brazilian news outlet G: “The evidence suggests that this crime was driven by revenge and jealousy, as the suspect’s ex-husband is now the partner or boyfriend of the victim, who was poisoned along with her two children.”
