Codie LaChelle McPhate’s parents divorced when she was four, but they made a conscious decision to co-parent with respect and kindness. Recently, Codie’s father visited Austin, Texas, and took the time to mow her mother’s lawn, as her mother has bad knees and her stepdad was out of town. Codie, moved by the gesture, posted photos on Facebook, which went viral.
She shared that her parents, despite their divorce 28 years ago, remain respectful and helpful to each other for the sake of their children. Codie’s father, on vacation at the time, wanted to show that kindness should always come first. He explained that, though not seeking recognition, he and his ex-wife chose to treat each other with respect, believing it was essential for raising good, kind children.
Codie expressed how lucky she felt to have parents who, despite their past, continue to set a strong example of love and compassion.
