My neighbor used to drop off thoughtful gifts at my doorstep—but when I opened the most recent one, I immediately knew I had to alert the authorities

Sophie’s gifts started as sweet surprises—flowers, cookies, small tokens of kindness. But the last package chilled me. Beneath the chocolates was a note that made me call the police.

She had left gifts outside my apartment, each with a note signed “Sophie.” At first, I appreciated the gestures, though we weren’t close. Then, one day, I found a hidden message in one of the notes: “Check the notes in every package I gave you.”

I searched through the packaging I’d saved and found more hidden messages, all pointing to a disturbing truth. Sophie was in danger. The final note read, “Someone found me.”

I realized Sophie had been hiding from someone dangerous. The police arrived soon after I heard three knocks on the wall—a signal from Sophie. They broke down her door and arrested a man who had been stalking her. Sophie, who had been in witness protection, thanked me for saving her.

She vanished that night, leaving only a bracelet with no note, a final gift to let me know she was safe. Now, when I see yellow daisies, I remember her kindness and wonder where she is.
