Royal Artillery Gunner Jaysley Beck, 19, was found dead at her base camp in Wiltshire, UK, in December 2021. Months earlier, she had expressed concern about her commander, Bombardier Ryan Mason, who made her feel uncomfortable and possibly hacked her phone. A report from October 2023 suggested that Mason’s behavior may have contributed to her death.
In July 2021, while on training at Thorley Island, Beck confided in a colleague about an incident where a senior officer, Battery Sergeant Major Michael Webber, tried to force himself on her. Beck had tried to push him away, and she was visibly upset during a phone call with a friend. Despite Webber later apologizing, Beck felt her complaints were dismissed due to his higher rank.
