While recovering in the hospital, I noticed a delicate gold bracelet on the nurse, Stephanie’s wrist. It was identical to one I had lost a month ago, a gift from my grandmother. When I asked about it, Stephanie revealed her boyfriend had given it to her—about a month ago. That’s when I realized Toby, my husband, had stolen it and given it to her.
Stephanie confirmed Toby had told her he was single. I came up with a plan to have him confess. That evening, when Toby arrived, I had the police waiting. Toby admitted to taking the bracelet and cheating on me. I chose not to press charges, but I left him, ending our marriage. Our divorce was finalized soon after. Though leaving was hard, staying with a man who betrayed me wasn’t an option.
