As The Death Toll Increases, Rescue Crews Describe The “Horrors” They Witnessed Underwater While Attempting To Recover The Remains Of American Airlines Disaster Victims

Rescue teams are still searching for the bodies of those killed in the January 29 collision between an American Airlines flight and an Army helicopter in the Potomac River. Of the 67 victims, 55 have been recovered. Rescue efforts are complicated by icy waters, and one diver was hospitalized for hypothermia.

While crews continue their work, officials hope the aircraft black boxes will provide crucial insights into the cause of the crash. The recovery operation remains challenging due to the harsh conditions and emotional toll on workers.
