I Was Certain My Son Brought His New Girlfriend on Our Family Vacation – That Was, Until I Accidentally Saw a Message on His Phone

I planned a family vacation to reconnect with my husband, Mark, and our son, Eric. But what should have been a bonding trip turned into a nightmare.

Mark lost his job a few years ago, and I’ve been carrying the financial burden. Despite my busy career, I wanted this trip to lift his spirits. Eric, now 20, was excited at first, but when he asked to bring his girlfriend, Jessica, along, I was hesitant but agreed.

From the start, something felt off. Jessica didn’t know basic things about Eric, like his passion for basketball or his major. It was strange, but I brushed it off. Then, I found a diamond necklace in Eric’s suitcase and questioned him about it. His explanation didn’t add up.

The final straw came when I discovered a text on Eric’s phone. It was a message from Mark about covering up the necklace and a $500 “deal.” Eric had been pretending to date Jessica as a cover for Mark’s affair with her. Mark had used my money to buy the necklace and paid Eric to stay silent.

At dinner that night, I wore the necklace, revealing the truth to both of them. I confronted Mark and Eric, and though Eric apologized, I couldn’t forgive them. I flew home alone and later filed for divorce. Jessica left Mark when she realized he had no money, and Eric and I are working on rebuilding our relationship. I just hope he learns from this betrayal and doesn’t follow in his father’s footsteps.
