I went to my estranged father’s funeral hoping for closure, but my grandmother’s warning sent me to his house instead. Inside, I found my half-siblings, Robert and Barbara, ransacking his study. They weren’t mourning—they were looting his estate.
I had been distant from my father for years after he left my mother and me, but his death stirred mixed emotions. At the funeral, I noticed his other children weren’t there. My grandmother pressed a key into my hand and urged me to visit his house.
There, I overheard Robert and Barbara searching for documents. I confronted them, but just then, the family notary, Mr. Davis, arrived and revealed that my father had left me his entire estate, provided that if my half-siblings tried to take more than their share, it would go to me.
My grandmother explained that my father had wanted to make amends. He had written a letter to me, apologizing for abandoning me, admitting his mistakes, and expressing his pride in the woman I had become.
With my father’s letter, I finally understood his regrets and found the closure I needed, along with an unexpected inheritance.
