In 1972, Bob Barker, the iconic host of The Price is Right, began giving away cars on the show. Now, at 99, he celebrates a remarkable life.
Barker, a member of the Sioux Tribe, grew up on a South Dakota reservation. He met his wife, Dorothy Jo Gideon, in 1945, and after serving in the Navy Reserve, he graduated with a degree in economics. Barker’s career took off in 1956 when he became the host of Truth or Consequences, followed by The Price is Right in 1972, where he became a household name and hosted for decades.
Barker credits his late wife for his success and never remarried after her passing in 1981. He found a longtime partner in Nancy Burnet, who believes Barker’s health is due to minimal medication and a vegetarian diet. Despite facing health challenges, including surgery, stroke, and cancer, Barker has maintained good health with the help of supplements.
After retiring, Barker remained active in animal rights, using his platform to support causes in memory of Dorothy. His legacy as an entertainer and advocate continues to inspire.
