Why “CSI” Star Gary Sinise, Whose Son Died at 33, Left Hollywood

Gary Sinise made a surprising decision years ago to leave Hollywood, reshaping his life and priorities. Known for his roles in Forrest Gump and CSI: NY, Sinise stepped away from acting to focus on his family and philanthropy.

In 2018, his son, McCanna “Mac” Sinise, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, and shortly after, his wife, Moira, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Faced with these personal battles, Gary put his career on hold to support his family. Moira eventually went into remission, but Mac’s condition worsened, and he needed constant care. Gary explained that he had to stop traveling and prioritize his family during this time.

Sadly, Mac passed away in 2024, but Gary found solace in sharing Mac’s music, including a posthumous album. Despite the challenges, Gary remained committed to his philanthropic work through the Gary Sinise Foundation, which supports veterans and first responders.

In 2021, Gary and his family relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, seeking a slower pace of life. In 2022, Gary expressed his gratitude for the move, which allowed him to focus more on his foundation and local community, marking a fresh start centered on family and giving back.
