Richard buys a bus ticket for a mother of three, and the next day, dozens of boxes arrive at his doorstep. He has no idea the gift will land him in trouble until his daughter opens one.
At work, Richard meets a frail woman who needs help getting to New York to escape her abusive husband. He buys her a ticket, and she leaves with her children. The next morning, Richard finds several boxes on his doorstep, accompanied by a note from the woman, thanking him and offering her belongings for him to sell. Among the items, Amanda discovers a diamond.
Despite his daughter’s insistence on returning it, Richard considers selling it. He visits an antique shop where the diamond is valued at $100,000, but the shopkeeper offers only $10,000 due to lack of documentation. Richard plans to fake the documents and sell it for more.
When Richard arrives home, he finds Amanda missing, and a ransom note demands the diamond for her safe return. Desperate, he realizes the woman’s husband might be involved. At the meeting, he discovers the diamond is fake, swapped by the antique shop owner, who was working with the kidnapper.
Richard confronts the shopkeeper, learns of the scheme, and devises a plan to trick the kidnapper. He pretends to have killed the shopkeeper and convinces the kidnapper the real diamond is still at the antique shop. The kidnapper rushes there, allowing Richard to rescue Amanda.
The police arrest the criminals, and Richard’s risky plan saves his daughter, though he worries about the legal consequences of not involving the police sooner.
