Sixteen-year-old Eric runs away from his foster family during a camping trip, hoping to find his biological mother and the answers he’s always longed for. While traveling to a diner that he recognizes from an old photo, he finds Eliza, the woman in the picture.
However, she denies being his mother and rejects him, even stealing his money before running from the diner. The police arrive, and Eric is taken back to the station, where his foster parents, the Johnsons, are waiting for him. They’re deeply worried, and Eric admits he ran away because he wanted to find a real family.
His foster parents reassure him that they’ve always considered him their son, even offering to adopt him officially. Eric finally realizes that love and family aren’t defined by blood, and he’s found the family he’s always needed.
